Cave Creek Ranch is located in Cave Creek Canyon, about a mile west of Portal, in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeast Arizona. By car we’re 2-1/2 hours southeast of Tucson, or about 3-1/2 hours west of El Paso.
Traffic Alert
The speed limit on Highway 80 in New Mexico is strictly enforced by Hidalgo County Sheriff deputies. New Mexico requires seat belts for both front and rear seat passengers.
From Tucson and Phoenix:
Take I-10 east. Drive until you cross into New Mexico. Turn off on Exit 5 for Road Forks, Route 80 South. Go south on Rt. 80 to milepost 5 (the Chiricahua Desert Museum will be on the left), then turn right (west on Rt. 533). Drive about 7 miles up the road to Portal. The Cave Creek Ranch turn-off is well marked and is about 1.7 miles past the large sign for Portal Peak Lodge. Stay on the paved road until you see our sign.
From Las Cruces and El Paso:
Take I-10 west to Exit 5 for Route 80 South at Road Forks, which is just a few miles before the state line. Go south on Rt. 80 to milepost 5 (the Chiricahua Desert Museum will be on the left), then turn right (west on Rt. 533). Drive about 7 miles up the road to Portal. The Cave Creek Ranch turn-off is well marked and is about 1.7 miles past the large sign for Portal Peak Lodge. Stay on the paved road until you see our sign.
